In my previous post I told you that I would return with information on how to find the right Cannabis Dispensary so you can be more informed about the services offered. I have since visited four different dispensaries and here is what I found:
Some dispensaries present a little flashier than others but all offer a variety of medical cannabis in many forms. Smoke it, vape it, eat it, apply it. You can purchase in quantity and quality. Some offer call ahead ordering. Some have delivery. All of them have an ATM on site. All of them had security. The average age of those behind the counter were in their mid 20's to 30's. All of the 'Bud Tenders, Florists, Concierges,- Employees behind the counter (there was only one male behind the counter at the dispensaries I visited) were friendly and helpful. I didn't glean any new information on efficacy or dosage that I didn't already know doing my own reading and research. Unfortunately, in all of the dispensaries, I felt that I knew more than the person behind the counter. note: customer service is not the same as being knowledgeable. I have been searching for a topical application product as it relates to arthritis. ( I had taken ibuprofen for years) I do get relief from smoking an Indica strain high in CBD but I was hoping for a product with less THC and in a topical application. Indica has a reputation for being couch potato weed and I need something that relieves the pain and not my energy, so I can create my art. There were a few application products, including time release patches, but the only information shared regarding them was to point out that, we sell a lot of this one. Selling a lot of a product doesn't necessarily mean it works. Do you sell a lot because the ratio is such that I need to use a lot? Or do you sell a lot because patients say it works? I expect someone to be able to speak to me about more than just the 'mood lifting antidepressant' strains.- Which I should add they have always been spot on about! However at each dispensary I was met with less than stellar advice regarding dosage and efficacy. For example, and without fail, here is how my conversation concerning the use of Cannabis for my migraine headaches unfolded in all the dispensaries. Me: Hi, I suffer from migraines. What do you recommend for migraines? YW: Well, (pointing to the name of a strain(s) on the menu) some people say this one helped them. And, you know, it works best if you take it before the migraine starts. Ugh. That's it. That is the length of the conversation. Every.Single.Time. *sigh* If you suffer from migraines you understand the sigh. Migraines are not just a bad headache. Chronic Migraine is a debilitating disease who's symptoms can be crippling. There are different types of migraines. Having people knowledgeable to some of the symptoms people may experience PRIOR to the often times debilitating pain of the migraine itself would greatly help in recommending a certain strain of cannabis as well as how to consume it. If one of the patients symptoms prior to onset is nausea it has been my experience that the taste of a lingual spray (under the tongue) is most likely going to cause vomiting. Therefore I expect to be given this information and steered away from the the lingual applications. On the upside if you do suffer from migraines I recommend the the App MigraineBuddy. It is a personal application App that gives you notice about barometer fluctuations, (if you have weather related migraines) allows you to track your migraines as well as medications and other relief methods. It also has on line forums to connect with other suffers and doctors. The people who designed this really understand this disease. I am not paid to endorse this App I am just passing on the knowledge. As with any type of pain medication or sleep aid everyone gets different results and Cannabis is no exception. I have a friend who experiences paranoia with the smallest amount of THC but can take 1000mg of CBD oil for relief of their pain. As with any disease that causes pain having options in your arsenal means more active days and less down days. Unfortunately my results of 'shopping around' conclude that Cannabis Dispensaries are pretty much all the same in regards to product, people, and cost. The only thing that set apart the four dispensaries I visited were the aesthetics and the price. So, upload the Weed Maps App or Leafly (not paid for these endorsements either) find the dispensary closest to you and visit. One last thing, if you are sensitive to the smell of weed you may want to have yours delivered. As a bonus, please enjoy some of my current artwork brought to you by some very effective anti-depressant Cannabis. All made from flowers- seriously. Saw this in my inbox before I was going to post and thought I would share.

![]() Disclaimer: (I really hate them but they are a necessary evil) I do not have a medical license. I am here to bring entertainment, enjoyment and education. The only thing I am currently licensed for is marrying people. Everything you are about to read is from my own research if you don't agree with something I have written and/or have other info please be kind and share it with the rest of us. Cause this is life, and we are all in this together. Disclaimer #2: I am a colorful person who uses colorful language and that's all I have to say. It is true that the current crop of cannabis is not the weed you smoked in high school and as such education is the key to understanding medical cannabis and how it can help you or a loved one. (note: it may help even if you don't love them.) (note again: Actually it has been know to make otherwise unlikable people lovable but that is usually after the person who has deemed someone unlikable has smoked some weed which in turn can make those family gatherings so much more beara- lovable... but I digress.) As with any drug, there are side effects. One of the more common side effects experienced from smoking or eating cannabis is the reduction of saliva or 'cotton mouth'. And a dry mouth can be resolved by drinking water or crunching on some ice. Personally, I usually experience cotton mouth only when it is some good weed. (note: I am okay with this mild side effect however if the side effect were anal leakage I would definitely have to reconsider my options.) The mysterious They aren't positive as to why it causes cotton mouth as there is a federal ban on cannabis and this in turn has limited the research. And one of the biggest issues caused by lack of research is the non-existence of dosing parameters. We don't give people a bottle of blood pressure medication without a dosing protocol but when it comes to using medical marijuana it can feel like a crap shoot (no pun intended) and because our government, Jeff Sessions, continues to ignore it's efficacy we will have people who could benefit from it not fully informed and missing out on a non-addictive drug that could improve their quality of life. Cannabis is not a perfect drug. It won't cure all that ails you but we should at least have some dosing parameters. That is why for the sake of science I am willing to give myself over to test for said parameters if necessary. -somebody has to do it. Today let's talk about edibles. This is where the lack of dosing parameters can make using cannabis a bit intimidating; a little education can go a long way to removing the fear and producing a good experience. WARNING: If you haven't used cannabis DO NOT START WITH EDIBLES. Edibles can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes to take effect and usually last from 4-6 hours. Just like other pain meds if you take more than you need this can lead to side effects that may last up to 4-6 hours. Edibles are usually made from the indica strain and have a high CBD level that works with our endocannabinoid system. (yes this really exists) There is a minimal amount of THC (the psychoactive part) in the edible. This type of edible is good for pain relief, post surgery pain, chronic pain, sore muscles, arthritis, or anxiety. If you don't understand this about edibles you may find yourself taking more or less because I don't feel anything. Most edibles are indica based so if take too much you may end up feeling lethargic and sleepy and in rare cases have hallucinations. Just like if you take too many sleeping meds, that Lunesta moth can be real for you. THC is the psycho active ingredient that stimulates the dopamine in our brains and that is helpful for depression. It also can stimulate the appetite (give you the munchies) for those who may have lost their appetite through chemo or grief. (Personal note: it is the best antidepressant I have ever used. -Okay so it's the only antidepressant I have ever used but why try something else when you have found something that works?) Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor. You won't go to jail. Ask them if there are any medications you are currently taking that could be replaced with cannabis. And if they aren't up on all the science and research challenge them to educate themselves. You are the consumer, you PAY them for their knowledge and health recommendations. If your healthcare plan doesn't have healthcare professionals knowledgeable in the benefits of caring for patients with cannabis tell them you want your doctor to be able to speak about medical cannabis as an option. Remember you are the consumer. If your doc is not on board, fear not! You can still try the magical medical weed. In order to do that you must be at least 18 and talk to a doctor that believes Cannabis is a drug that should be an option for their patients. My doc is Dr Frank at 420Recs.com Once you have your Cannabis Rx meet me back here and we will talk about how to find a dispensary near you and more importantly a few of the myriad of options to consume your medical cannabis. For those of you who are old stoners this may just be a refresher course. Have fun storming the castle! Before I used CBD for my arthritis I was a reluctant walker. As I wrote in my previous post, my preferred physical activity is rollerblading. I wanted to walk, but the impact of walking aggravates the arthritis in my knees, and lower back. Go figure. It all started slowly enough. Pain when walking. Less walking. Less activity caused me to put on a few pounds, which didn't help the pain in my knees, and back. I was popping the ibuprofen so much my stomach started to be effected. After hearing about the success my son from-another-mother, who suffered from childhood sport injuries, had with CBD; I stopped taking the ibuprofen, and headed to the pharmacy to pick up some CBD spray. I experienced almost instant relief. The CBD oil took away the pain. No stomach upset, no kidney failure; no kidding. I even give CBD to my Australian shepherd who is almost 17 years old. And that, is when I started to look forward to walking the dog. Now when we walk I am not dreading the times I have to bend down to clean up after her. It really wasn't the bending down that was the problem, rather, it was returning to an upright position. Now instead of rushing through the walk I actually look forward to it. I have shed the few pounds I put on and that also helps my aging knees. I am always looking for shit to make stuff and I had walked past some cool things because it would have required me to bend over multiple times- not anymore! Check out what's in my basket. I made a magnet from the stuff I found on my urban walks with my dog. I don't know the name of the tree that these leaves come from but I knew from the first time I saw them I was going to make some cool shit. I removed the stem, cut the leaf, and painted the body gold. Attached the body and antennae with hot glue. Cut a strip off of an old refrigerator magnet attach with more hot glue and... Tah dahhh! This would look cool on a stainless steel refrigerator. Perhaps YOUR refrigerator! Just be the first to comment. No shipping, no handling,-no kidding! This awesome magnet was brought to you by: Cannabis. When you need to get shit done. No risk of stomach upset or kidney failure. Note: This is also brought to you by cannabis. Sometimes the magic works.... ...keeping it 100rd.
A big THANK YOU to Dr. Frank for asking me to be a part of Elevate the Conversation and for encouraging me to tell my story with medical cannabis. I have not met a more knowledgeable and passionate Doctor who is truly on the front lines educating people about the effectiveness of cannabis. In case you missed it, I was a guest on UBN radios' 'Elevate The Conversation' with Dr Frank on Friday night surrounded by the Doc, Capt Ron, support staff and... Mark! ( I thinnnk I remember their names, but on the chance I would state them incorrectly I wanted to make sure I gave them a nod too) I was co-guesting with Tony Klein an LA comedian who's shows you should catch if you are in the LA area. Check out his Facebook page for dates. WoW! What a night! If you saw or listened to the show I just need to say... there is no use avoiding it any longer... I can't hide it anymore. I roller-blade. I also take long unromantic walks on the beach. Hike the local mountains and deserts. Stroll Swap Meets and Flea Markets. And on rare occasions I fill in on my son's Awesomness softball team. Keeping it 100'rd. This was almost 2 years ago.
*sigh* But I digress.... (camera three) Cannabis: It won't make you younger but it will help your arthritis pain. Gonna get Baked and work on a few projects. If you happen to like what I am working on and think 'I wish I had that'. I will happily send it to you: No shipping. No handling. No kidding. Just be the first person to post a comment. Coming up... curing my dog's UTI with CBD.
According to the United Nations, 158.8 million people around the world use marijuana—more than 3.8% of the planet’s population.
'Good people don't smoke marijuana'. This is a quote by the new Attorney General Jeff Sessions; a racist, homophobe who "joked" about how he thought the Ku Klux Klan was "okay, until he learned that they smoked marijuana." Actually, he's missing a word. 'Good people' don't just smoke marijuana. Sometimes we cook with it, bake with it, use it as an anti-depressant, a pain reliever, an anti-seizure, anti-migraine.... you get the idea. If his statement is to be believed. I am one of the 158.8 million 'bad' people in the world. If you enbibed when you were younger and are thinking of coming back to the magical medicinal marijuana you should know that today's weed is not the weed of your youth- it's better. If you are a Foodie who though Getting Baked With Mom was just another baking competition. Stick around. I bake cake!
Yes it really is a cake. (check out the adipose tissue)
Ya still with me? Just scroll up. I'll wait. Because I use a cannibidol (CBD) spray for arthritis pain I hike too. I may not hike it in record time but my 57 year-old body can still take me up the mountain; without my knee brace, and without joint or back pain. If you have been wondering if you could benefit from medical marijuana and how it can change your life join me on Elevate The Conversation on Thursday February 23rd at 9:00pm. Or if you have a group of people who you think would benefit from hearing my story you can contact me. Also, if you are in the Southern California area and want to join me in being 'bad' on one of my baked, half-baked and on the rare occasion no-baked adventures drop me a line. I guarantee to make you laugh harder, think deeper and become a believer about the healing power of the flower. Say goodnight Gracie |
